Woven Valentine Bookmarks

So after Christmas this year Looby repurposed some Christmas Cards into bookmarks and they turned out really nicely. We decided to try it again only this time we are making enough for her to use as Valentines in school this week coming.  I helped her with the first 1 or 2 but then she was away and made the rest herself.

You will need:

Sheet of paper, patterned on one side or both sides. Approx. 5 x 7 inches
Ribbon
Hole punch
Scissors

Step 1

Fold paper in half lengthwise

Fold in half lengthwise again

Step 2

Cut diagonal up through all 4 layers on the fold. Do not cut all the way to the edge. Make approximately 7 or 9 cuts, it should be an odd number.

Step 3

Open up so you just have the piece folded in half instead of quarters. You should see a V pattern running down the middle. Fold up the first V.

Step 4

Skip a V and then fold up the next V, tuck this one inside the V above that you did not fold up.

Repeat this step until you reach the bottom. It should look like this.

Step 5

Using the hole punch, punch a hole in the top triangle through the 4 layers. Then cutting about 6 inches of ribbon thread this through the hole.

One complete bookmark, now repeat 18 times for the rest of the class. Very pretty.
